Boy charged with loaded gun at Detroit school

DETROIT (WILX) -- A 10-year-old boy from Detroit was charged Thursday after bringing a loaded handgun to school.

Prosecutors say a fellow student at Spain Middle School saw the gun in his backpack on Wednesday and told school officials.

That gun was taken away.

He was charged on Thursday as a juvenile with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a weapon in school.

He was released on bond following a preliminary hearing and is not allowed to be on any school property unless authorized by school officials.

Prosecutors say he is not subject to adult penalties.

They add other parts of the case remain under investigation.
