JACKSON, MI (WILX) -- Back to school is on everyone's mind and the city of Jackson wants to help ease yours a little bit with a back to school blast event!

The event is Friday, August 16 at CP Federal City Park.

Vendors from the community will be onsite passing out free backpacks and school supplies.

There will also be free dental exams, vision screenings, haircuts and dinner provided, along with family fun activities.

The blast is made possible this year by Dawn Foods who gave $3000 towards the cost of backpacks.

Organizers said, " In 2018 we served 659 children by providing: 45 free haircuts, 101 Vision Screenings, 338 free packs of underwear and socks, and gave away 456 backpacks. This year our goal is to serve 1000 children."

It goes from 3 - 7 pm. at Blackman Park on 212 W. Michigan Ave.
