LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The American Red Cross will continue to host blood drives throughout the state and the Blood Donation Center in Lansing will remain open. This is after following an agreement with the Office and Professional Employees International Union.
At this time, the Red Cross is looking for potential blood and platelet donors and they are asking people to make a blood donation appointment as soon as possible.
“Donors of all blood types, especially type O, are needed this fall after hurricanes Michael and Florence forced the cancellation of about 200 blood drives,” said Dr. Barry Siegfried, medical director of the Great Lakes Blood Services Region. “This resulted in approximately 7,000 uncollected units of blood and platelets.”
The Red Cross is making it even easier to give blood with an app. The app is free and can be downloaded for iPhone or Android phones, just look for American Red Cross Blood Donor App.
You an also set up a donation by visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.
Blood and platelet donors can save time at their next donation by using RapidPass® to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, before arriving at the blood drive. To get started, follow the instructions at RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass or use the Blood Donor App.
