A woman had the wrong surgery operation at the hospital

WELLINGTON, Flor. (WILX) - A woman checked into a hospital for back surgery, but left missing a kidney.

51-year-old Maureen Pacheco checked into Wellington Regional to have back surgery.

However, she left the hospital, without one of her kidneys.

Documents show a surgeon mistook it for cancer, and removed it from her body without her consent.

The Florida Department of Health filed a complaint against that surgeon, Dr. Ramon Vazquez.

Pacheco says he wasn't even her doctor. His job was to cut her open so her physicians could perform the back surgery.

Wellington Regional says the hospital has taken steps to review what happened and Dr. Vazquez is no longer on the medical staff.
