EAST LANSING, MI (WILX) -- On Sunday, the city of East Lansing revealed a new public art sculpture called "Lemon Grass."

"Lemon Grass" was created by local, Holt-based artist, Dane Porter and it is the first public art piece to be commissioned by the city of East Lansing with percent for art* funds.

The sculpture, which was inspired by nature, stands at approximately 12 feet in height and has been installed in the plaza that serves as an entryway to the park and the East Lansing Farmers Market.

"I had the the sketch in my sketch book for quite awhile. When this opportunity came up to make a piece for this park, I thought it would be perfect," said 23-year-old Porter. "I am honored that they picked me, it's really humbling actually."

Porter's artwork can already be found at several locations throughout the region, including homes, outdoor settings and corporate offices.

He is a graduate of Lansing Christian School.
