LANSING, MI (WILX) -- Legislation introduced in the Michigan House is aimed at cracking down on people lying about support animals.
House Bill 4910 would make it a misdemeanor for someone to have a fake emotional support animal. The punishment would up to 90 days in jail, a maximum fine of $500, and community service.
The bill would also require providers to treat a patient for at least six months before writing a letter approving the emotional support animal.
The legislation would have to be approved by the House and Senate before being sent to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to be signed into law.
