(WILX) -- Michigan State has had Hobey Baker winners in the past-- college hockey's version of the Heisman Trophy.
But when Kip Miller and Ryan Miller won the honor, MSU had great teams.
Taro Hirose is the nation's leading scorer this season, assists and goals combined.
He is mentioned as a possible Hobey Baker candidate.
It's my thought he won't win because MSU has a losing hockey team and has had one for years.
The voters usually go with a player from a prominent team.
It does not diminish what Hirose has done this season, but likely makes his path to the honor much tougher.
