MASON, Mich. (WILX) - Spring is just around the corner, but it’s already proving to be a busy year for the Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter (ICACS).

They say they have many animals they’re caring for, but not a lot of kennel space left.

In order to help clear some of the kennels and make room for more cats and dogs looking for their forever homes, ICACS is seeking fosters and offering a dog adoption special.

“If long-term adoption is not the right fit for your household, temporary placements through our foster program is a great option,” said ICACS director Heidi Williams. “It’s so rewarding knowing you’re helping not only the animal you’re fostering by giving them individualized care while waiting for their permanent home but also helping to alleviate overcrowding at the shelter.”

Becoming a foster is easy. Just fill out an application and attend a short orientation at the shelter. The animals are placed in a foster home as needed. All necessary information and supplies will be provided to the foster family.

You can find the application form on this page of the ICACS website.

To promote dog adoptions and make room for more intakes at the shelter, ICACS is holding a dog adoption special through Saturday, March 19. During the special, all dog adoption fees are being reduced to $50. Adoptable dogs will have been spayed or neutered, microchipped, and have age-appropriate vaccinations. Dog licenses must still be purchased.

The Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter is located at 600 Buhl St. in Mason and is open Monday-Saturday from 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
