REO TOWN, Mich. (WILX) - Rosie the Riveter is a cultural icon and has come to symbolize strong women. Did you know that the real-life Rosie was from Michigan?

Her legacy is palpable in REO Town, where there are over a dozen woman-owned retail establishments lining South Washington Avenue.

In anticipation of Rosie the Riveter Day, come celebrate the Women of REO Town! You can take advantage of the social district status and grab a drink at Sleepwalker, then sip and shop! Get “rosie” in honor of Rosie while supporting women-owned businesses.

“With the inspiration for Rosie the Riveter being from Michigan, we thought that was the perfect opportunity to kind of just focus on the women-led retail,” said Jenn Carpenter, owner of Deadtime Stories and The Screamatorium. “I think is amazing and it feels very comforting. You know, we all go through similar things.”

Participating shops will have limited edition buttons featuring famous Michigan women, special offers, and more!

Here is a list of woman-owned retail shops in REO Town:

  • Clean Refillery
  • Deadtime Stories
  • Jean Jean Vintage
