Fall, Winter sports to make return at Lansing Community College
Fall and winter sports are back on track to return this fall
LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Fall and winter sports are back on track to return this fall, Interim Athletic Director Nichole Waters says.
“College leadership had to really make a tough decision [last year], and LCC, during this whole period, has taken a people first, safety first approach,” she said.
Waters joined the athletic program in the spring and has worked hard to bring the fall and winter seasons back to life.
She says she’s constantly working with her coaches to make sure games are played.
“It’s fortunate for me that I have such a great coaching staff, and they can share with me what I need to be doing or what they need from me,” she said.
One of them is longtime men’s basketball coach Mike Ingram, who’s been furloughed for the last nine months.
“It was tough to be off, I’ll be honest. I didn’t want to just disappear,” he tells News 10.
He’s been working with his wife and spending more time with his family.
But with the state opening up and LCC’s recent decision, he can focus on getting back to coaching.
“It’s been really good to get back out there and do some basketball work,” Ingram said.
Both Waters and Ingram are excited to work with what they say are the most loyal student athletes they could ask for.
“Our student athletes have stuck with us. We appreciate them for that, and we’re just happy to offer them their playing season this year.”
“It’s an exciting time for them, I think they’ve been waiting for some good new and I think they finally got it.”
