‘Sleep In Heavenly Peace’ needs volunteers to build beds for local kids
LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The Lansing Chapter of Sleep In Heavenly Peace is looking for volunteers to help them build beds for kids without a bed to rest their heads.
The purpose is to build 60 beds in one day, and the building event will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 12 at the Lowe’s Store on South Cedar Street in Lansing.
The organization says it plans to make history with their upcoming event, teaming up with 46 states, including Michigan, in supplying 7,500 beds to bedless children.
The goal, the organization says, is to help solve the problem of children not having a bed, while also creating a sense of unity in the community through volunteers and involvement.
“Think of all the kids that will be reached, all the dreams that will be saved, the confidence that will be restored, the worry and stress that will be relieved,” said Luke Mickelson, SHP Founder. “That’s what happens when a child receives a bed. That’s why we do this - for them.”
