LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Tuesday the Ingham County Prosecutors Office issued an Open Murder arrest warrant for David Peter Velten, 20, for the death of his father, John Velten.

On Wednesday, LTPD Detective Randy Volosky presented the arrest warrant to David Velten, who had been lodged in the Ingham County Jail since March 31 on unrelated charges.

In the afternoon of April 9, Lansing Township Police (LTPD) received a call to 2419 W. Michigan Ave for a welfare check on John Velten, 58, after friends and neighbors reported they had not seen him for several days.

Officers entered and discovered Velten’s body, and he was pronounced dead. The officers found evidence that suggested his death was suspicious. LTPD detectives began an investigation and submitted findings to the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office.

David Velten was 19 years old at the time of his father’s death.
