LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Hillsdale Representative Andrew Fink is calling on Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to allow restaurants to resume indoor dining.

The ban on indoor dining in the state of Michigan was issued in November to reduce the spread of the COVID-19. The order has been extended twice since then.

The Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association filed a lawsuit challenging the state ban, but that case was dismissed in late December.

“Workers in the restaurant industry have proven that they can operate safely with proper protocols in place for both employees and customers,” Fink said in a statement. “They should be allowed to work. I hope the governor will re-assess her decision and consider the struggles.”

The ban is set to expire this Friday, Jan. 15.
