MEXICO CITY (AP) -- Mexico's former ruling party has filed a complaint accusing federal prosecutors of leaking information tying three of the party's former governors to a drug money-laundering investigation.
The Institutional Revolutionary Party's presidential candidate has a strong lead in opinion polls and is widely expected to win July's election. The PRI ruled Mexico for seven decades until it was unseated in 2000.
The party's complaint against the Attorney General's Office presages a potentially ugly fight over allegations that PRI officials have links to drug cartels.
The newspaper Reforma on Thursday cited unidentified sources as saying three former PRI governors of Tamaulipas state are being investigated for possible laundering of cartel profits.
