In Okemos, Dr. Dennis Perry at Meridian Primary Care is seeing patients with a flu-like type of upper respiratory infection.
It starts with a sore throat and nasal congestion, muscle aches and fever.
After a day or two, a cough starts.
The achy, feverish feelings go away after a few days but the cough continues.
To treat this URI, rest, take Tylenol or Ibuprofen for aches and fever control, and drink lots of fluids to prevent dehydration.
Breathing in steam through a hot bath or shower or by using a humidifier can help.
Over-the-counter cold medications can provide relief from symptoms. If symptoms haven't improved after 10 days or symptoms include a high fever, see a doctor.
This URI has been in the community for a couple of weeks. Dr. Perry is seeing secondary sinusitis and pneumonia from it as well.
