It's that time of year: the flu is starting to pop up in Dan Moore's office this week.
The physician assistant at Ingham Internal Medicine and Pediatric Associates in Lansing says you may experience fever, body aches, head ache, chills, sweats, cough, sore throat and runny nose.
The flu can also cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhea but very rarely do those symptoms occur.
To treat the flu, rest, drink lots of fluids, and take fever reducers like Motrin, Aleve or Tylenol to keep the fever below 100.5 degrees.
Over-the-counter cold medications can also help.
You should see a doctor right away if your fever won't drop, or if you have asthma, diabetes, COPD, cancer or another chronic condition that may affect your body's ability to fight infection.
You should not give children under the age of four, any kind of cough medication.
Mr. Moore highly recommends getting your flu shot if you are able.
