Another cold and snowy week ahead

With the official start of spring on March 20th quickly approaching, many are itching for warmer weather more than ever. Unfortunately, we won't see any this week. Over the past week, we recorded four days with official high temperatures over 40 degrees, the warmest air we had felt in weeks. In the week ahead, it will be quite the opposite.

Sunday will see a mostly clear morning and a partly cloudy afternoon and evening. By afternoon, a west wind may bring a few lake effect flurries to the western portions of our viewing area, but most of Mid-Michigan will remain snow-free. Highs will be colder in the mid 20s.

Sunday night, the lake effect snow may become a bit more steady for us into Monday, and more of it will reach further inland. Skies will be mostly cloudy. Lows will be in the low teens.

Monday, light lake effect sow is likely most of the day. No significant accumulations are likely at this point, but we could all see a little fresh accumulation. Highs will be in the low 20s.

By Monday night, a small disturbance may bring some widespread, but still light, snow showers to the area into Tuesday. Tuesday through Friday will see more chances for light snowfall. While each day has a chance for snow, as of Saturday night, no major accumulations or winter storms seem likely.

Temperatures in the extended forecast will be well below normal. The average high temperatures are in the mid 30s and lows around 20, but in the week ahead we'll see highs in the 20s and even 10s by Wednesday, and lows in the low 10s and single digits.
