Great Lakes activists want stronger protections.

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) -- Die-hard activists unsatisfied with a deal aimed at protecting Great Lakes water from thirsty outsiders will be continuing their battle today.
Critics of the water compact signed in October by President George W. Bush will meet in Traverse City to discuss their options.
They fear the water compact and state laws enacted to comply with it have flaws that could give multinational corporations a legal basis for tapping into the lakes as the worldwide freshwater shortage worsens.
Advocates may try strengthening state water laws, beginning in Michigan with a ballot initiative to write tougher water protections into the constitution.
