Heavy weekend rains have caused sewage overflows in Ionia County contaminating part of the Grand River, downstream from Grand Ledge, and the waters of Jordan Lake.
Ionia County Health Department says nearly 750,000 gallons of untreated sewage escaped into the Grand after a pumping station was overwhelmed during the weekend's storms.
Approximately 8500 gallons of sewage and storm water escaped into Jordan Lake.
People are being advised to avoid contact with the water in those areas for the time being.
