President Bush has declared a major disaster area in Michigan, making recovery aid available in areas hit by severe storms and flooding.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency says Monday's declaration covers eleven counties affected by the June 6-13 severe weather in the Lower Peninsula.
The area includes Allegan, Barry, Eaton, Ingham, Lake, Manistee, Mason, Missaukee, Osceola, Ottawa and Wexford counties.
The storms killed at least eight people and blacked out more than 730,000 homes and businesses.
FEMA says federal funding is available to state and local agencies and to some nonprofit groups "for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe storms."

Storms hit mich this year and did alot of damage. Then storms are hiting world wide.Records are being made. Some say it won't hurt the food prices, many say it will.Worse yet many more storms may come to mich.FEMA will be busy this year.Lets hope they have enough funding for all 2008 storms and fires.Severe storms could of happened last weekend. But the hot muggy days did not produce what could of been and skys are nice now,but storms toward sat and sunday again.Lets pray for normal weather not severe. We all hope many who recieved damage will get help and be taken care of.Mich has enough problems. At least jenn got help for some. Now we need jobs, surely she knows that.Where are they?
