'Dateline NBC,' the signature broadcast for NBC News in primetime, premiered in 1992. Since then, it has been pioneering a new approach to primetime news programming. The multi-night franchise, supplemented by frequent specials, allows NBC to present the highest-quality reporting, investigative features and newsmaker profiles, consistently and comprehensively.

The broadcast also features leading NBC News talents Tom Brokaw, Brian Williams, Matt Lauer, each of whom contributes to and anchors some of the editions. ‘Dateline NBC’ also features esteemed correspondents, many of whom have earned awards for ‘Dateline NBC’ segments. The correspondents include Victoria Corderi, Chris Hansen, Sara James, Hoda Kotb, John Larson, Edie Magnus, Josh Mankiewicz, Keith Morrison, Dennis Murphy, Rob Stafford, Mike Taibbi and Lea Thompson.
The flexibility of ‘Dateline NBC’ allows for multipart features, full-hour documentaries devoted to single subjects, or series of continuing reports. The program has brought Americans in-depth coverage of breaking news, including the funeral of Princess Diana, the national manhunt for Andrew Cunanan, the crash of TWA Flight 800, the Unabomber investigation, the Oklahoma City bombing, the O.J. Simpson trials, the Los Angeles earthquake and fires, and the floods in the Northwest.
‘Dateline NBC’ has presented several acclaimed hour-long specials, including Stone Phillip’s “Little Girl Lost,” an investigation into the country’s child-welfare system; and Tom Brokaw’s “Why Can’t We Live Together,” a look at race relations in America; 'Dateline NBC' has made headlines recently with reports that include a hidden-camera investigations; Stone Phillips’ interview with Susan McDougal, discussing her role in the Whitewater investigation; Ann Curry’s exclusive interview with Bobbi and Kenny McCaughey, parents of the world’s only septuplets; and a consumer alert investigation by Lea Thompson that revealed the surprising contents of ground beef purchased at supermarkets in ten states. In addition, John Larson’s report on the misuse of Louisiana’s drug asset forfeiture law prompted the state’s governor to introduce legislation that reformed the state’s law.
This year, ‘Dateline NBC’ has been honored with a number of distinguished awards for excellence in journalism including three Emmy awards, an Alfred I duPont-Columbia University Award silver baton, three Edward R. Murrow awards, three American Women in Radio and Television Gracie Awards, an Investigative Reporter and Editor award, nine National Headliner awards, and two National Association of Black Journalist awards.
