MASON (WILX)-- A padlock wasn't enough to protect the valuables of dozens of people.

Nearly thirty units at Merindorf Mini Storage in Mason were broken into last weekend, and police are now trying to contact the victims.

"Stuff is just stuff. There are more important things in life," said Jennifer Rydel.

Rydel had a good attitude despite having more than $10,000 dollars worth of valuables stolen from two of her storage units. The thieves took her four-wheeler and tool boxes that she was storing as her family moved into a new house.

"To think about how much time they spent here and how much thought."

A total of 29 units were broken into. Police say bolt cutters were used to cut the locks on the main gate and each unit. There are no suspects in custody, but Trooper Craig Carberry believes several people were involved.

"With some of the items they took, it had to be more than one person with a pickup," said Carberry.

It's likely the break-in was pre-planned. There are more than 60 storage units, but the thieves only broke into the ones that couldn't be seen on surveillance.

"They were aware of the camera on the store next to the lockers and then they avoided that area."

Police weren't able to sweep for prints, but hope the thieves will slip up and try to sell some of the items that can be tracked. They advise those who had their stuff stolen to keep out an eye as well.

"The people have been advised to look into e-bay and craigslist to see if their items turn up there."

Now all Rydel can do is put a new lock on her units and hope for the best.

"I just want people put to justice," said Rydel.

Police say a few motorcycles were also stolen from one of the units. They're still trying to contact all of the victims. If you have a unit there, or know someone who does call, the State Police Lansing Post and ask for Trooper Carberry.
