Tuesday evening's strong storms damaged a lumber yard and RV park near the airport, on grand river avenue. The National Weather service will visit the site in DeWitt township today to determine if a tornado touched down.
But whether or not it was a tornado, the storm was strong enough to heavily damage the MPC Cash-way Lumber Yard.
High winds probably did a lot of the damage. Winds exceeded 60 miles per hour in many areas. The storm also brought record rainfall to Lansing yesterday, with 2.58 inches. The old record was 1.37 inches, which was set in 1935. We broke that record yesterday by over an inch of rain. There were reports last night that a tornado had touched down in Leslie. The National Weather Service sent a team to Ingham County last night and confirmed there was no touch down in Leslie.
If you have any pictures of damage in your area, we encourage you to post them on our WILX Facebook page. And of course, look out for debris on the road.
