EAST LANSING (WILX)-- How would you like to be working on a construction crew in this weather? For those guys it's not an option, and they have to tough it out.

In this high heat Ingham County road crews go through multiple large containers of water and gatorade each day. The high heat not only makes working outside miserable, it also slows the projects down.

"It does make you tired the sun, it drains every little bit of energy out of you," said Nate Connor, a construction worker with Ingham County Road Commission.

It isn't just the sun that's raising the temperature, says Connor. Next to the machinery it's a constant 104 degrees. To cool down crews take hourly breaks, plus rotate the crew when someone needs to grab a drink.

"We work until somebody gets too hot then we'll change over."

Taking more breaks means it takes longer to get the project done, but it's a small price to pay says Connor. He wants to make sure his crew stays well hydrated, and keeps their wits about them while working in high traffic areas.

"You got mentally, you got to be strong if you do this kind of work."

Elsewhere in Ingham County families are doing the opposite of work. At Lake Lansing Park, it's has been seeing at least double the amount of visitors this week. Pat Witte, Lake Lansing Park Manager, says he's been seeing anywhere between 500 to 1,000 people per day.

"We've had a lot of people come out. Usually for half a day because they can only spend half a day without a lot of shade.," said Witte.

Witte has been adding more staff to the park to make sure no one has to stay out in the sun too long. He's even added two more lifeguards to the beach to match the volume of patrons.

Lake Lansing Park does allow families to bring in coolers with their own beverages, but strictly prohibits alcohol.
