JACKSON (WILX)-- A Jackson County mother is charged with helping her husband sexually assault their three-year-old daughter.

The 36-year-old mother was arraigned Thursday, on two counts of criminal sexual conduct.

(We aren't using her name because we don't want to identify the victim.)

"Do you understand what you are accused of?" asked Magistrate Frederick Bishop.

"Not really," replied the mother who was appearing by video at the arraignment.

But prosecutors already have a confession. They say the mother admitted to detectives she held the girl down and watched her husband molest their child.

"We have a full audio and video recorded confession," said Kati Rezmierski, assistant prosecuting attorney.

Prosecutors tell us the suspect admitted the abuse went on for months.

The woman and her husband are being held without bond, both are awaiting separate preliminary hearing scheduled for later this month.

The husband is charged with twelve counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct. Both face up to life in prison if convicted. Neither will be a short sentence if a jury finds them guilty.

"In this case because of the age of the victim and defendant there is a minimum sentence of 25 years," said Jerard Jarzynka, prosecuting attorney.

The charges against the mother were filed after information was revealed during her husband's investigation. We'll let you know what happens next.
