LANSING (WILX)-- A $7 million dollar apartment facility's about to be the newest addition on Lansing's Michigan Ave.
The high-end flats are being built on the same site the Silver Dollar Saloon used to be located on.
Right next to the Frandor Shopping Center, it'll be prime real-estate for MSU students, particularly international students.
It's a muddy pit right now, but from pictures the Midtown building should look vibrant and welcoming when finished.
"It's a four story building, 66 housing units, and a PNC bank on the first floor," said Pat Gillespie, President of Gillespie Group.
The apartments are expected to be a big draw for MSU international students. Gillespie Group has been having focus groups with international students to find out what they're looking for when living here. Even the building logo has incorporated the chinese character that means "home".
"It wasn't always the idea until we engaged the international department at Michigan State. We then realized they're looking for something marketing towards them and catering to their needs," said Gillespie.
"We have students from all over the world coming to Lansing, and they're used to a certain standard," said Mayor Virg Bernero.
The project's scheduled to be finished in August, just in time for the new school year. Students are already trying to choose their own apartments.
"We have to be ready by then, a lot of international students have already expressed an interest. We've been working with them and they're excited to pick out their own flat," said Gillespie.
