"We feel like that would give people less protection in this process, would lead to more illegal foreclosures because we would not be able to uncover the things that are being done to people, and just gives us less time in the process."

Curtis Hertel - Ingham County Registrar of Deeds

Michigan homeowners who get foreclosed on have six months to work with the bank, but a bill in the house would now give them just two months to modify their mortgage.

It's all in the name of boosting home sales quicker turnaround quicker sale, but critics ask have you ever worked with the bank on a foreclosure? Not exactly a speedy process.

This is part of a package of bills to extend the state's current "mortgage loan modification program."

It will expire on June 30th.
