After eight months of planning, it all comes down to one day for Mindy Biladeau and Downtown Lansing, Inc. The day starts at 6 a.m. and the to-do list can be a bit overwhelming.

"Setting up the main stage, getting everything tweaked for the live broadcast, set up for the Silver Bells Village," said Biladeau, Silver Bells Coordinator.

But the blueprint for a successful Silver Bells in the City has long been established. After all, this is the 29th year...

"It started in 1985 with really humble beginnings with a couple hundred people," said Biladeau.

The addition of the electric light parade in 1997 pushed attendance to 50,000...a number that has swelled to more than 100,000 in recent years. Such a large event needs a lot of help to put on, 500 volunteers and 60 sponsors, to be exact.

"We're so thankful that all of our volunteers and the people who are planning it for so many months can see it come to fruition and have a great time," said Cathleen Edgerly, of Downtown Lansing, Inc.
