Guided Meditation at the Meridian Senior Center

8 weeks session will begin Tuesday September 1st- October 27th from 4:00 – 4:15 p.m.

Did you know more and more doctors believe mediation to be the very best tool for mental, physical, and emotional health? Did you know meditation helps improve memory, helps your digestive system work more efficiently by using some breathing techniques that improve circulation and blood oxygen? Did you know meditation activates the "happy part of the brain" by stimulating the frontal part of the brain, renewing a zest for life, mediation can also sharpen and focus the mind, melt away stress and anxiety often brought on by having chronic health conditions?
This is a 15 minute class seated in your favorite comfortable position, using guided meditation, breathing techniques, and personal reflection time.
Classes are complimentary to each other. Attend only meditation for a drop in fee of $2 per person.

MPHI (Michigan Public Health Institute) Flu Shot Clinic

MPHI Interactive Learning Center, 2436 Woodlake Circle, Suite 380, Okemos
MPHI employees and their dependents ages 10 and up. Open to the public age 10 and over. A valid insurance card and I.D. must be presented at the time of the vaccine for insurance to be billed. Most insurance is accepted. Cost without valid insurance is $33.. Cash, check, or credit card will be accepted.
Flu shots are not recommended for those allergic to eggs or egg products, those who have had an adverse reaction to flu or pneumonia shot, those with a current active illness, and those who are in their first trimester of pregnancy. Children under age 10 are not eligible to participate in this clinic and should see their pediatrician. Meijer Pharmacy will be administering the vaccinations.

Join us for this FREE event and share with your friends and neighbors who may benefit from these services from Rite Aid Pharmacy of Haslett
A pharmacist from the Haslett Rite Aid will be on site to provide Flu Vaccinations. Pneumonia and Zostavax (Shingles) Vaccinations will be available upon request (see instruction below in order to have these services provided to you the day of the event.
1. Fill out a consent form in advance- Forms can be picked up from Meridian Senior Center Staff.
2. Please be sure to bring your actual insurance card (if you do bring a copy, it must have both sides for billing purposes.
3. Pneumonia and Zostavax (shingles) vaccinations will be available UPON REQUEST. Both additional arrival and copay’s will apply and vary. Rite Aid Pharmacy will contact you directly copay information.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Shingles vaccine is a live virus vaccine and cannot be provided the same day of the pneumonia vaccine. These must be spaced apart by at least 4 weeks. If someone is interested in either the pneumonia or shingles vaccine you must let us know in advance.

Medicare Open Enrollment

Stacey Humphrey’s Medicare Specialist from the Tri-County Office on Aging.
Medicare open enrollment is October 15th through December 7th. Our local MMAP Specialist, Stacey Humphreys will be at the Center to help individuals enroll in new plans or finding a plan that fits your needs.

Dental Plan
Ingham County now has a free dental program for qualifying residents! Ingham Health Plan has partnered with Delta Dental of Michigan to provide a dental plan where care is administered by participating Delta Dental EPO network dentist. Eligible residents can have health coverage through IHP, Medicare, or a commercial insurance and still qualify for the IHP Dental Plan. Dental members will have free access to cleanings, routing fillings, preventative exams, and x-rays. The plan will also cover crowns, root canals, bridges, and dentures with reasonable member co pays. You don’t need to have Ingham Health Plan medical coverage to be covered under the IHP Dental Plan. If you need Dental coverage, please stop by the Meridian Senior Center for more information on how to get enrolled.

We will have 40 vendors with products to sample and products to buy. Marge Pestka, MS, RD, will speak on Sometimes a gluten free diet is not enough. For those with symptoms of Celiac Disease or a genetic risk, free celiac screening will be available. One must be on a diet containing gluten for at least 6 weeks to have accurate results.
