Community Forum on Race, Ethnicity & Culture

Date(s): 9/24/2015

7:00PM

Faith Lutheran Church, Okemos, MI
Faith Lutheran Church will be hosting a Community Forum to discuss issues of Race, Ethnicity & Culture on Thursday evening, September 24, at 7:00 PM. Panel participants include:
• Dr. Ronald E. Hall, MSU Professor of Social Science, International Lecturer on Skin Color and author of several books including “The Color Complex” (1992/2013)
• Rev. Linda Gardner, Pastor at The Church of Elohim
• Shashi Karve, MBA – President of Ivy Ambitions and member of Bharatiya Temple of Lansing
• Karen Keyworth – Founder and CEO of the Islamic Schools League of America
Moderator for this event will be Rev. Dr. John Schleicher, ELCA pastor and former bishop of the North/West Lower Michigan Synod of the ELCA.

The fatal shootings of nine African Americans at Mother Emanuel AME church in Charleston, South Carolina, along with other incidents from Ferguson to Baltimore, have inspired members of Faith Lutheran Church to begin hosting a series of forums focusing on issues of race and ethnicity in present culture. Through the vehicle of community forums, Faith members hope to see our community begin having an honest conversation about simmering racial tensions that are so present in our culture.
