Students returned to Jackson High School today after a chilly week off. Nearly a week ago, one of their classmates, 15-year-old Antrana Brown was shot sitting on her friends porch.
"I was especially shocked," said Jackson High Principal Pam Fitzgerald. "Considering the kids were sitting on the front porch...thy were sitting on the stairs during spring break."
Both Brown, and 10-year-old Montrese Simpson are still at Ann Arbor hospital. Principal Fitzgerald says Antrana was known as a bright young girl at school.
"She's right on track. She's doing a good job. Her attendence is excellent," Fitzgerald said.
She is also involved with Partnership Park, an after school program funded by Catholic Charities. On hearing the news of the shooting, they made themselves available.
"We took three of our master level clinicians for the outpatient therapy site, and sent them over to the after school program to work," said Executive Director Vicky Schultz.
Most students at Jackson High School knew about the shootings that happened over spring break. For those who didn't, grief counselors were set up in the library.
"They weren't out running the streets. They were out running with little hooligans," said Fitzgerald. They were where they were supposed to be, doing what they were supposed to be doing. It's just absolutely tragic that this happened."
Jackson police still do not have anyone in custody, and at this time, have no new details in the investigation.
