Spartan Baseball Rides Complete Game Shutout to 2-0 Win

Jeff Holm sent the ball skyward in the fourth inning. His solo home run gave Michigan State a 1-0 lead.

It's all they would need.

Tony Bucciferro baffled the Golden Gophers and got some help from his defense on the way to a 2-0 win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers with a complete game shutout.

The Golden Gophers' biggest threat to score came in the fifth with the bases loaded and only one out. But Bucciferro induced a 4-6-3 double play to get out of the inning and keep the shutout intact.

In the bottom half of that inning, Brandon Eckerle came home on a Ryan Jones double to left-center. That made it a 2-0 game.

The Spartans move to 19-7, leading the Big Ten with a 4-1 record. They'll look for the sweep on Sunday at 1 PM.
