Yankees Outlast Tigers

Posted: Thu 5:32 PM, Aug 09, 2012

Mark Texeira and Eric Chavez hit homers on consecutive pitches off Joaquin Benoit Thursday to give the New York Yankees a comeback 4-3 win over the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park. The blows came in the 8th inning. The Tigers had runners on first and third with no one out in the 9th inning but couldn't score. Alex Avila hit a two run homer for the Tigers, his 7th in the fifth inning to erase a 2-0 New York lead. The teams split the four game series. The Tigers are now 60-52 heading to Texas for a three game series before moving on to Minnesota next week. The Tigers trail the idle Chicago White Sox by a game in the Central Division.
