Around mid Michigan major league umpire Jim Joyce is still remembered for his call in 2010 that cost Detroit Tigers' pitcher Armando Gallaraga a perfect game. In Arizona he is a hero.
Joyce, 56, arriving at the Arizona Diamondbacks' stadium to work a game Monday night, discovered a female worker having collapsed and not breathing. Joyce, who learned CPR as a teenager, administered such aide until an ambulance arrived. He had to continue to help for awhile until the victim began breathing again. Joyce decided to work home plate for the game even though he said his mind wandered at times. The woman was said to be in stable condition late Monday night.
