The Kansas City Royals pushed across a tie breaking run in the 9th inning Wednesday against relief pitcher Joaquin Benoit and went on to beat the Detroit Tigers 3-2. The series at Comerica Park was split 1-1 with one game rained out until September 24th. Justin Verlander pitched into the 9th inning for Detroit. Brennan Boesch hit his 4th homer of the season. The Tigers fall to 12-12 on the season and it was their first loss to the Royals after four opening wins this season. They next host the Chicago White Sox.
