The Detroit Tigers gave up four ninth inning runs and lost to the Tampa Bay Rays 4-2 Wednesday afternoon at Comerica Park. Starter Justin Verlander could not get out of the ninth and ten Rays went to the plate. Former Tiger reliever Fernando Rodney pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Rays. Detroit, the final unbeaten American League team, falls to 4-1, the same record as the Rays. The teams close out the series with a 1pm game Thursday before the Tigers head to Chicago for the week end and a series against the White Sox.
