The Detroit Tigers broke a 2-2 tie in the 8th inning Tuesday and went on to beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-2 at Comerica Park. The Tigers improve to 4-0 and the Rays are 3-1 and the Tigers are the last unbeaten team in the American League. Prince Fielder drove in the winning run with a single and Gerald Laird added an RBI single to produce an insurance run. Jose Valverde pitched a scoreless ninth inning. The teams meet again at 1:05pm Wednesday and Thursday.
