Keith Appling missed a contested lay up with 2 seconds to play at Illinois Tuesday night and the Spartans lost a Big Ten men's basketball game to the Illini, 42-41. MSU made just 14 field goals and shot just 24 per cent for the game. Draymond Green only played 16 minutes-- he had foul trouble, was called for a technical then left the game for good with a knee injury with 3:54 to play. There is no word on the severity of the injury. Branden Dawson had 12 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Spartans who trailed 22-20 at halftime. Illinois ended a three game losing streak. MSU, ranked #9 in the Associated Press poll this week, falls to 6-3 in the Big Ten, one game behind Ohio State at the midway point of the conference season. MSU is 17-5 overall. The Spartans return home at 1pm Sunday to host Michigan.
