Michigan State's men's basketball team overcame a 37-27 halftime deficit Thursday night to beat Illinois 80-75. The Spartans outscored the Illini 53-38 in the second half. Keith Appling, who scored just 3 points last Sunday at Indiana, had 24 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Denzel Valentine scored 11 for the Spartans. Gary Harris left the game in the second half with back spasms and did not return. MSU improves to 18-4 while the Illini fall to 15-7. The Spartans are off until they host Minnesota next Wednesday.
