Scherzer Scratched From Final Assignment

The Detroit Tigers have scratched pitcher Max Scherzer from his start on Wednesday night in Kansas City, the regular season's final game. Scherzer sprained his ankle behind second base after the division clinching victory Monday night. He is expected to be able to pitch in the playoffs and his scheduled start likely would be in game two Sunday at Comerica Park. The Tigers will not know their first opponent in the best of five series until late Thursday. They face the American League's divisional titleist with the second best record.
