The Red Wings have now lost five straight, following an 0-4 Western trip. The Capitals led 3-0 against Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard after one period and 4-1 after two before the Wings cut the deficit to 4-3 midway through the third period. Former Spartan Justin Abdelkader scored the Wings' third goal.
