The Red Wings needed a win Saturday and a loss by Nashville in regulation to secure home-ice advantage in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

The Wings had been dominate at home this year, including setting a record with 23 straight home wins.

Chicago seemed loose in this one, getting the scoring going early with a Viktor Stalberg goal in the first.

Late in the second period Andrew Shaw finished off a pass to the middle with a goal up and over Howard to give Chicago the 2-0 advantage.

Detroit would fight back and in the closing moments of the game was able to put one by Chicago's Corey Crawford to send the game into overtime.

After a scoreless overtime, Patrick Kane netted the only shootout goal to give Chicago the win.

Detroit will face Nashville in the first round of the playoffs.
