Red Wings Open With Victory

The Detroit Red Wings scored two goals 30 seconds apart in the first period Wednesday night and went on to defeat the Buffalo Sabres 2-1 in their regular season opener. The game was played at Joe Louis Arena. The Red Wings play at Carolina Friday. Mikel Samuelson and Pavel Datsyuk scored the Red Wings goals against former Michigan Stater Ryan Miller. The Sabres scored with seven minutes to play against Jimmy Howard but could not get the equalizer. The Red Wings opened the season as a new member of the Eastern Conference.
