LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Lansing Sexton's Denzel Valentine has been selected as The Associated Press Class B Player of the Year.
The 6-foot-6 senior forward who plays more like a guard averages nearly a triple-double at 15 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists per game. Valentine recently scored 19 points, grabbed 17 rebounds, made seven assists and sparked runs that helped defending state champ Sexton advance to a third straight trip to the state semifinals.
Coach Carlton Valentine, who also is Class B coach of the year, said of his son "understands where the scorers are on the floor, and tries to get it to them."
Denzel Valentine will play for Michigan State next season.
Sexton is 25-1 heading into tomorrow's semifinals.
