Michigan State rightfielder Jimmy Pickens has named the Spartans' most valuable player for this past season. The sophomore from Bloomfield Hills was named second team all Big Ten. He also was co offensive player of the year with senior Josh Keur. MSU finished its season 33-17 and coach Jake Boss made the award announcements Tuesday. Righthand pitcher Chase Rihtarchik was named the team's most improved player. He had a 6-1 record and a 2.64 earned run average.
