NHL labor meetings lasted five hours on Wednesday in New York but little progress is reported. The NHL expects the players' union to make a new proposal soon and the management is encouraging such a move. Neither side has offered a proposal in more than three weeks. The regular season was to begin Thursday but games have been cancelled the first two weeks.
