Mickelson Grabs Early Open Lead

After flying overnight back to Philadelphia from San Diego, Phil Mickelson fired a 3 under par 67 for the early first round lead at the U. S. Open golf championship at Merion. Mickelson attended his 8th grade daughter's graduation on Wednesday and teed off at 7:11am Thursday. He needed a mere 29 putts during his round. The first round will be completed Friday after rain delayed play for 3 1/2 hours early in the morning. Mickelson is looking for his first U. S. Open title.
