Joel Maturi announced Thursday he will step down as University of Minnesota athletic director this summer. Maturi is soon to turn 67 and has held the job since 2002. He will keep his $345,000 annual salary through mid 2013 and work as a consultant for the school president. A search is underway for a successor. Maturi says he is tired from the 14-16 hour work days he said are neccessary to perform his job overseeing 25 varsity sports.
