EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's golf senior Matthew Moseley will continue his final season as a Spartan for at least another two weeks. On Monday night, Moseley was selected as an individual to participate in the NCAA Regional in Columbus, Ohio to be held at the Ohio State University Golf Club’s Scarlet Course on May 16-18. It will be his first NCAA Regional appearance and the second-straight season that a Spartan golfer has qualified.

“We are excited for Matthew as he continues his way into the postseason,” said Spartan head coach Casey Lubahn. “He has put together an extremely solid season and shown the ability to compete with the nation’s best collegiate players. In 11 stroke play events, he had the low individual round in the tournament five times.

“Matthew will continue to do the things that have put him in this position and stick to his game plan. I have the utmost confidence in him putting up some low scores on the challenging Scarlet Golf Course at OSU.”

Moseley will face 13 teams and 10 other individuals who qualified for the Columbus Regional, in an attempt to qualify for the NCAA Championships. After the 54-hole event, the top-five teams and the low individual not on those teams will move on the Capital City Club Crabapple Course in Atlanta, Ga. on May 28-June 2.

Moseley was the top Spartan all season, leading the team in eight of the 11 stroke play events. He has posted a 73.94 scoring average so far this season, which leads the team and is currently tied for 14th on the MSU single-season list.

He was named second-team All-Big Ten last week, earning his first conference postseason honor.

Overall, Moseley has three top-5 finishes, including winning the Colleton River Collegiate this season, while also posting eight top-25 showings, capped by a tie for 15th at last weekend's Big Ten Championship. At the beginning of the spring, he led MSU with a 3-1 record, helping the Spartans' to a runner-up finish at the Big Ten Match Play Championship.

For his career, Moseley is seventh on the Michigan State scoring list with a 74.87 stroke average. He has totaled eight top-10 and 17 top-20 finishes.

Moseley is just the fourth Spartan to qualify for an NCAA Regional as an individual, joining Dan Ellis last season, Jack Newman in 2010 and Ryan Brehm in 2006. As a team, the Spartans have qualified for the Regionals nine times (1992, 1993, 1994, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009).
