The Miami Marlins Thursday named 41-year old Mike Redmond their new manager and gave him a three year contract. Redmond replaces Ozzie Guillen, let go last month. Redmond played 13 seasons in the major leagues including seven with the Marlins. He is a friend of team owner Jeffrey Loria.
Redmond managed the Lansing Lugnuts to a 77-60 record in 2011 and was named Midwest League manager of the year. He managed the Toronto Blue Jays' class A affiliate at Dunedin, Florida this past season. He will be formally introduced at a Friday news conference.
